Privacy Policy
What personal data we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it.
1. About this policy
Lalat Internet Service Pvt. Ltd. ("Lalat", "we", "us") is a licensed Internet Service Provider based in Aizawl, Mizoram. This policy explains how we handle personal data when you visit this website, apply for a connection, or use our broadband, IPTV and related services.
We are the data fiduciary for the personal data described here, and we handle it in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under them, and the conditions of our ISP licence.
2. What we collect
Information you give us
- Identity and address verification: name, installation and billing address, date of birth, and copies of the identity and address documents we are required by our licence to collect and verify before activating a connection.
- Contact details: mobile number, alternate number and email address.
- Payment information: the plan you choose, billing history, and payment references. Card and bank details are handled by our payment gateway — we do not store full card numbers.
- Support interactions: the complaints, service requests and correspondence you raise with us, including call records where calls are recorded for quality purposes.
Information generated by using the Service
- Connection records: IP address assignments, session start and end times, data volumes and equipment identifiers. These are network operations records that we are required to generate and retain.
- Network diagnostics: line quality, fault and outage data used to run and repair the network.
We do not inspect, read or monetise the content of your communications or your browsing history for advertising purposes, and we do not sell personal data.
Website visitors
This website does not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. If you submit an availability check or a business enquiry form, we use the details you provide to respond to you.
3. Why we use it
- to verify your identity and activate your connection, as our licence requires;
- to provide, maintain, repair and support the Service;
- to bill you and collect payment;
- to send you service communications — outage notices, due dates, docket updates and changes to tariff or terms;
- to investigate misuse of the network and protect our subscribers and infrastructure;
- to comply with our legal, licence and regulatory obligations, including reporting to TRAI and the Department of Telecommunications.
Where we want to use your contact details to tell you about new plans or offers, we do so only with your consent, and you can withdraw that consent at any time without affecting your service.
4. Who we share it with
We share personal data only where it is necessary:
- with service providers who work on our behalf — payment gateways, SMS and email providers, and installation partners — under contractual obligations of confidentiality and security;
- with government agencies, courts or regulators where we are required to disclose under a lawful order or under the conditions of our licence, including lawful interception and monitoring directions;
- with professional advisors, or in connection with a transfer of the business, subject to the same protections.
We do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.
5. How long we keep it
Subscriber verification records are retained for the duration of the subscription and for the period afterwards that our licence requires. Connection and billing records are retained for the period prescribed by the applicable licence conditions and law. When data is no longer needed for the purpose it was collected for, and no legal obligation requires us to keep it, we delete it or anonymise it.
6. How we protect it
We apply reasonable security practices and procedures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration and loss — including access controls, restricted physical access to records, and staff confidentiality obligations. No system is completely secure, but if a breach affecting your personal data occurs, we will notify you and the Data Protection Board as required by law.
7. Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you may:
- ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it is processed;
- ask us to correct or complete inaccurate or incomplete data;
- ask us to erase data, where we are not required to retain it under law or licence;
- withdraw a consent you have given us;
- nominate another person to exercise these rights in the event of your death or incapacity;
- raise a grievance about how we handle your data.
To exercise any of these, write to us at info@lalatinternet.in. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
8. Grievances about your data
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal data or a request under clause 7, contact our grievance officer at nodal.officer@lalatinternet.in, or call 1800 202 0850. If your grievance remains unresolved, you may approach the Data Protection Board of India.
Complaints about your service — faults, billing, disconnection — follow a separate, TRAI-mandated process set out on our Customer Care page.
9. Children
Our Services are provided to adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data of children except as part of a subscriber's household record, and we do not use children's data for tracking or targeted advertising.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The current version, with the date it was last updated, is always published on this page. Where a change materially affects how we use your data, we will notify you.
